The Sober Home was established in 2008. While working as a Therapist in a residential facility, Jason noticed the lack of housing opportunities for clients leaving treatment. Many clients would return to their dysfunctional homes and relationships only to find themselves quickly falling back into their old behaviors and then relapsing.
Jason owned a 4-plex at the time and an inspirational thought crossed his mind, "Open up a sober living/transitional house at an affordable price." There were others already opened but their prices were too high for the average person. Some were charging upwards of $3000 per month and Jason's clients couldn't afford it.
Besides offering a safe place to live, Jason thought it was crucial that counseling or case management be offered to assist the residents in their transition into society. This is the most critical time of sobriety--right after treatment and on their own. This is when the greatest number of people relapse.
Jason had the property, the training, the license and the inspiration. Putting them all together is how The Sober Home came to be.
Jason has a Bachelor's degree in Family Science from Brigham Young University and a Master's degree in Social Work from the University of Utah. He is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker as well as a Licensed Substance Abuse Counselor. Jason currently works full-time as the Clinical Director at Steps Recovery Center in Payson Utah |
